Tutorial on how to make a bookmark and pencil casing from scrap fabric
Hello everyone
Greetings to you all in this great community , I hope you are all doing great, it is with great pleasure that I will be sharing with you today the cutting and sewing process a bookmark and pencil casing from scrap fabric.
Last weekend, I had to do some cleaning in my sewing space and I found out I have a lot of leftover pieces of fabric which are making the to look rough, the pieces were many and as a seamstress,we can't do without having some pieces with us from left over fabric, I thought of a smart way to do away with this without disposing them and I decided to start making meaningful and useful items from the scraps which can be given out as gifts or kept for my personal use.
This bookmark serves as two purposes, one is a bookmark and the other is a pencil casing for safe keeping and easy access of your pencil. This is one of the useful items I made today from my sewing room from those pieces of fabric and subsequently, I will be sharing with you many more items made by me, join me as I share with you the cutting and sewing process below.
I selected 2 pieces from those fabric and I measured 11x3" from one piece
It was folded in two and I cut out an interfacing measuring 5.5 whch was half of the long piece measurements and it was ironed on the piece just s seen below
It was folded in two and taken to the sewing machine where it was sewn at the top t secure it
This was set aside as I measured 2 pieces from another fabric measuring 8.5x3"
An interfacing was ironed on one piece for it to be firm
I placed the folded piece on the piece with interfacing then I placed an elastic band of 10" that was cut out on it before I placed the other piece without interfacin on it and it was sewn together round, leaving an opening where it can be turned inside out
It was turned to the right side through the opening and neatly ironed, finally, it was sewn round and this is the final outcome
I have some pen well arranged in it just the was it will be used
Th elastic band will then serve as the bookmark just as seen below
I hope you like the final and beautiful outcome of this bookmark I made from scrap fabric.
Join me in my next post as I will be sharing beautiful creativity and craft from my sewing room.
Thanks so much for your time, support, comment and encouragement. Until my next post, do have a great time.
