The Asian common toad (Duttaphrynus melanostictus), also known as the black-spined toad or Asian black-spined toad, is a species native to South and Southeast Asia. It’s found in diverse environments, from urban areas and gardens to forests and agricultural land, and is known for its adaptability. Here are some key features and traits: Size: It usually measures around 8–12 cm (3–5 inches) long.

The Asian common toad has a bumpy, warty skin with shades of brown, gray, or yellow. Darker spots often appear, along with distinctive black spiny bumps or glands, especially around the neck and back. Large and round with horizontal pupils. Found in various habitats, including urban areas, woodlands, grasslands, and farmlands.
Primarily insectivorous, feeding on insects and small invertebrates.
Breeds during the rainy season, laying eggs in temporary ponds or slow-moving water bodies.
As insect-eaters, they help control populations of agricultural pests.
In some regions, like Madagascar, it’s considered invasive and poses a threat to local biodiversity, as it competes with native species and can introduce diseases.
