Join us as we begin our rice planting for this farming season
Hello Hive
Eventually we have gotten started with our rice planting process for this year. Whenever we plant rice we often adopt different methods that we believe that it can make our work faster but in some instances you don't have a choice but to plant based on the type of soil you have in ground.
For instance whenever the field is not submerged in water like what we currently have here. We go ahead to plant the grains directly in the ground and within a max period of 14days they will have all germinated.
But before the planting is done in the field, herbicides will have been applied to kill all the grasses in the field so that they will not affect the crop soon as they germinate from the ground.
Most of the time we are often unable to plant all our rice before the heavy rains comes and submerge a good portion of the rice field. We currently have rice fields in different location in this place. Whenever the field gets submerged, the planting of the grains directly into the soil gets halted and from here the only way to propagete the crops so that they can survive is by transplanting.
Planted rice grains gets rotten in submerged water but the vegetative type that has been grown in the nursery is the perfect type that will survive on wet lands
For now the ground is still very much dried hence the planting methods is currently going on. Some parts of the field often retain more water than other parts of the field.
So whenever the rains gets started these parts gets submerged almost immediately
Gradually our work is getting started up from the simpler task of direct planting like this which is often much more faster. Transplanting is a slower process. With this direct planting we will cover as much ground as possible before the other transplanting process takes over.
It's another day of work and while preparing to hit the road we have having a slight shower of rain this early morning, hopefully it won't hinder our lineup of activities for the day.
