Peanut planting process, Land preparation, Herbicides application
Hello Hive
It's a bright and beautiful new week and we will be continuing with the bulk of our work in the farm.
I had one of the most restful weekends yesterday and a good nap after church services. I feel very much refreshed to statte a new week.
Like you all know how we have started last week and gradually with the planting or both rice and groundnuts, today we are continuing with these task.
The Groundnuts unlike rice didn't germinate properly in some parts of even after planting good seeds.
You can trust some birds to follow our footsteps to pickup these nuts and eat.
Naturally whenever we are planting any kind of seeds, birds are often on standby to pick and eat these grains be it rice, groundnuts, corn or any other type of grains. For rice typically we do mulching covering the grains with leaves to prevent them from being picked up while for the other grains being planted on ridges like this, it is impossible to do mulching
What we do somethings to prevent this is to plant the grains with hoes instead of our feet. But the best methods is to plant the grains on the same day the land is being cultivated.
When the land is being cultivated, the soil is agitated altogether making it difficult for any bird to locate where some grains could possible be within the soil.
There will be some replanting task today to fill up every empty space where the birds must have picked up some harvested seeds.
While that is going on the portion of land here where herbicides have been applied will be cultivated for more planting.
The grasses here have withered off to a reasonable extent that the land can now be cultivated. Whenever herbicides are applied to any farm before cultivating it it reduces the chances of any them affecting the growth of the crops at its early stage of development. This portion of the land will be cultivated.
Groundnuts planting is the priority of most people currently and my family too will engage in planting some of these like we do yearly.
I even forgot to share with the community some of our groundnut recipe and the products we have produced and used from our last year groundnut harvest.
