If We Were All Content, Would the World Still Move Forward?

Huhm, this is a huge topic. Talking of if everyone would be happy, feel fulfilled, and most importantly be contended with what they have, at least that's what I translated the topic to be. Imagining a world without jealousy, greed, competition, unhealthy comparison and the likes. Honestly, it's not a small topic at all. Looking at the society we live in, it makes me wonder if any of that is possible. The world today is filled with greed, the pressure to prove a point, jealousy and many more. It's rare, if at all found to see people or a society living peacefully with what they have.

But it looks beautiful. I remember writing a post about Nigeria some few weeks back, I was imagining what the country would look like if everything was working well and there's no issue of insecurity, high cost of living and all of that. That's the same way this feels like in my imagination. Then world would be calm, countries might not even have boundaries, there won't be nepotism, no wars no religious or tribal wars, humans will be kind, there will be fewer or more crimes at all, nobody would crave for or do anything to own what belongs to their neighbors, we will trust each other, we will be safe.... I don't know if to stop imagining.

Now, let's talk about the rise of tech, I'm not so sure tech would have been thos widespread, I say that because reading from history, most of the people who invented one thing or the other did their best to do it because there's a problem and the problem needs a solution. We can say most, if not all of the inventions that we have today are an answer or solution to a problem. Talk of the internet, we need to do stuff and reach people in far distance, talk of transportation, we need to get to places faster, talk of medicine, there's the need to curb illnesses and treat sick people.. all of those is to make life easy and at the same time being a solution to a problem.

If everyone is good and content with what they have, then we will only have very few of these things we have now. It's not as if we won't progress, we will but at a very low pace. Phone companies wouldn't compete on who's producing the best phones with battery and camera, car companies wouldn't compete on who's producing the best, and all of that, and when all of that is absent, then our progress as well will be slow, there are some technology in place today that won't even be existing if we were living in such a world.

But I believe contentment is possible, I mean not as if you're staying stagnant, nah, I mean you can be contended and still aim for or dream of something. An engineer can be contended and still dream of or work towards inventing a thing that will ease certain burdens, not because they want to be popular, but because they really care about people. Same goes for a teacher too, he/she can keep learning and passing knowledge across to the students, not because they want to be the best teacher of the year, but because they love the students and want them to grow and they know they can only achieve that by continuing to learn. That is more like purposeful living, living fulfilled just like I said in the first paragraph.

That's what I think a happy world would feel and look like, we wouldn't do things with the aim of being famous, rich and such, but with the aim of making life easier for everyone. That's the balance that we need to attain, and if we are able to we won't just get solutions to all of the issues affecting our world today, we will also become better humans.
