Work To Live, Don't Live To Work.

I love this prompt so much. Because in all honesty, it is not always easy to balance these things. I love it more because it would allow me to voice out certain things I've come to realize and find a way to navigate through it.

I, for one, believe that the fact that I'm busy means I'm doing very well for myself. At least I remember how busy I always am; if I was not writing, I would be teaching or tutoring; if I'm not doing that, you will see me at an event as a chef or caterer, or you will see me helping someone out somewhere. If I weren't doing any of that, I would feel guilty and sometimes see myself as lazy. It took me a while to realize that being busy doesn't equate to living a meaningful life.

It is good to work; if you're not working, I will love to ask you how you're able to live and afford your basic needs, but then work shouldn't be our overall. I love a Yoruba saying that says, "emi ise gun ju emi eyan lo." It means work will always exist; you won't. In short, it just means that if you're working somewhere and you happen to fall sick or die, it doesn't mean the work will shut down too; they will definitely hire another person... That's how it goes.

So, it's important for us to take time out to rest, have fun, make memories, be with families, and enjoy life even if it's a little. Most times we often procrastinate and say we will make time for those things later; meanwhile, that later may/always never come.

But then, when we talk about balancing these things, we need to also understand that the balance cannot be 50/50. Some days you will be so free to make enough time for family, fun, rest, and all, and on some days you will be so busy with work that you may not even have an hour to spare. But no matter how busy it is, always try to take some time to rest.

Another thing I would love to hammer on is our phone; I'm also guilty of this. We should learn to keep our phones away sometimes. The time we spend on our phones at times is enough to make memories with family and friends; it is enough for us to exercise or even sleep, but then we find it hard to do.

Work, I know, is very important; if you're living and not working, then your life, existence, and all are questionable. But then, we should always try to make time for ourselves too. A song back then says, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." I hope you get my point.
