More Than Just Teaching: My Tara Basa Journey
Hi, madlang ka-hives! I'm back ! It's Angel, and today I'm going to share my experience in the DSWD Tara Basa Tutoring Program . By the way, sorry for the late blogs, but anyway, I'm finally here again ! This blog is all about what I experienced, what I learned, and the lessons I will always carry with me .
When I first joined the program, I honestly thought it was mainly about teaching children how to read . But as the days went by, I realized it was much more than that . Every day was a new adventure . Some learners were shy, some were playful, and some learned at different speeds . I learned that every child is unique, and as a tutor, I needed to be patient, understanding, and encouraging . Teaching isn't just about giving lessons—it's about making children feel comfortable enough to learn .
Our journey lasted only 20 days, but those 20 days were full of unforgettable memories . There were times when I felt tired, but seeing the excitement on the learners' faces whenever they understood a lesson made everything worth it . Watching them become more confident in reading reminded me that even small progress deserves to be celebrated . Those little victories made me realize how rewarding teaching can be .
This experience also helped me grow as a person . It improved my communication skills, strengthened my patience, and gave me more confidence in handling young learners . As a future teacher, I realized that teaching requires not only knowledge but also kindness, compassion, and a genuine love for helping others. Sometimes, the smallest words of encouragement can make the biggest difference in a child's life .
One of the biggest lessons I learned is that education is a shared responsibility . Teachers, parents, and the community all play an important role in helping children succeed . I also appreciated the trust and support of the parents, especially those in Balirong . Their cooperation showed me that when everyone works together, children have a better chance to learn, grow, and reach their full potential .
Looking back, I'm grateful that I became part of the DSWD Tara Basa Tutoring Program . It wasn't just about the cash assistance or completing a 20-day program—it was about touching lives while allowing mine to be changed as well . This experience reminded me that learning goes both ways . While we taught the children how to read, they taught us valuable lessons about patience, resilience, gratitude, and finding joy in simple achievements . And for that, this journey will always have a special place in my heart . See you in my next blog, madlang ka-hives ! 💛
