Hello Shadow Hunters community! Wishing you a happy Saturday, today I want to share my entry in this week's SMASH contest and, at the same time, take my mind off our dire situation here in Venezuela. Since Wednesday night, we've been living in constant anguish, initially due to the psychological impact of experiencing two earthquakes in quick succession, just 39 seconds apart, and later because of the news we've been receiving from other regions of the country, like La Guaira, where the destruction was most severe. I thank God that our home wasn't damaged and we're all safe, but believe me, feeling the full force of that double earthquake while living on the 20th floor was horrific. So, since we have electricity and internet access, I wanted to share these shadows with you as a way to clear my head of so much bad news and at the same time leave you with proof that I'm okay.

Now, getting back to the shadow I'm sharing for this round #432, I took this shadow the day before the earthquake—I still can't believe it! Everything seemed so normal and ordinary; it's incredible how your whole life can change from one day to the next. Currently, this lab building has severe damage and significant cracks; I doubt we'll be able to hold lab sessions there again. But in any case, I took this shadow when I arrived very early in the morning when the morning sun was just rising and the first thing I saw was how it was hitting the laboratory building, generating these very interesting shadows. That's why I wanted to title this post "Architecture of Light and Shadow Part II," since I had previously done a post about shadows that also involved architectural structures, which you can enjoy here.

I was in quite a hurry to the lab because this exercise is essentially a hematology lab, and I had to get there quickly to centrifuge the rabbit blood they had given me for the experiment. But I stopped for a moment to photograph the impressive shadows cast by the building itself, with its prominent structural and architectural elements. As I climbed the stairs, I paused to photograph the shadows in more detail, and what captivated me about this particular shadow was how it highlighted the building's contours. Near my lab, I captured the most interesting aspect of the shadow: how the latticework acted as a grid, filtering the light and creating a striking geometric interplay of light and shadow.

At the end of the day, I was able to get everything ready for the students to successfully conduct their experiments, and to my pride, they told me it had been their most enjoyable lab session yet! That completely convinced me that the work had been well done, despite all the difficulties encountered throughout the day. Deseándoles un feliz sábado hoy quiero compartirles mi participación en el concurso SMASH de esta semana y al mismo tiempo despejar la mente de nuestra aciaga situación aquí en Venezuela. Desde el miercoles en la noche hemos vivido en una angustia perpetua, inicialmente por el impacto psicológico que fue recibir 2 sismos seguidos con una separación de 39 segundos entre ellos y posteriormente por las noticias que hemos estado recibiendo de otras regiones del país como la Guaira que es donde más severa fue la destrucción. Doy gracias a la providencia por que nuestro hogar no sufrió daños y todos estamos bien, pero creanme sentir los rigores de ese doble terremoto viviendo en un piso 20 fue algo horrible. Así que aprovechando que tenemos energía e internet quise compartirles estas sombras como una manera de despejarme de tantas malas noticias y al mismo tiempo dejarles un testimonio de que estoy bien.

Ahora, volviendo con el tema de la sombra que les traigo para este round #432, esta sombra la tomé un día antes del terremoto aun no lo puedo creer! Todo parecía tan normal y cotidiano que es increíble como toda tu vida puede cambiar de un día para otro, actualmente este edificio de laboratorios tiene severos daños y fisuras importantes, dudo que podamos volver a dar prácticas de laboratorio allí. Pero en cualquier caso, esta sombra la tomé cuando llegué muy temprano en la mañana cuando apenas estaba levantándose el sol de la mañana y lo primero que vi era como estaba incidiendo sobre el edificio de los laboratorios generando estas sombras tan interesantes, es por eso que he querido titular este post como Arquitectura de Luz y Sombra parte II ya que anteriormente había hecho un post de sombras que también involucraba estructuras arquitectónicas, la puedes disfrutar aquí.

Iba con bastante prisa al laboratorio porque esta práctica es en esencia una práctica de Hematología y tenía que llegar rápidamente a centrifugar la sangre de conejo que me habían dado para el experimento, pero me detuve un momento a fotografiar la imponencia de las sombras que generaba el mismo edificio con sus elementos estructurales y arquitectónicos que sobresalen. A medida que subía las escaleras me detenía para tomar con más detalles las sombras que se generaban, y lo que me atraía de esta sombra fue como resalta el relieve del edificio. Cuando ya estaba llegando a mi laboratorio capture la parte más interesante de la sombra y era como la celosía actúa como una rejilla que filtra la luz y crea un juego de luces y sombras muy geométrico.

Al final del día pude dejar todo listo para que los estudiantes hicieran sus experimentos exitosamente y para mi orgullo, me expresaron que había sido su práctica más divertida hasta ahora! Eso terminó de convencerme de que el trabajo estaba bien hecho a pesar de todas las dificultades que se presentaron a lo largo del día.
