Autumn captured in rocks of kindness. 🍂
I love colors and have always loved autumn, although I also love spring, but autumn has something special, possibly nostalgia, the warm colors of its leaves, the crunch of them underfoot when I walk, and the fact that the trees take on different shades within the same color range.
In some countries there is no distinction between the seasons, but I have lived in an area where the contrast between the four seasons is very marked and intense. That's why the most beautiful seasons are spring and fall. It's strange that September here in Spain is fall, when for 40 years of my life that day marked the beginning of spring, with its flowers and celebrations.
This season conveys a kind of calm, serenity to me. I think it is a thoughtful season, always evoking memories, although I am not quite sure why this happens. It reminds me that Loli, my friend, always tells me that in northern countries the days are sadder, there is less sun, and the sky is very gray—not always, but that is what she experienced.
She spent 10 years of her life in Germany and always tells me stories. She loves trees, and I think those stories and memories, plus the trees, inspired these rocks of kindness. I know she would like them. Besides, I feel that her soul will rejoice and that she needs them.
I thought about all of this, about autumn, about walks with crunching leaves, and these rocks were born. There are five because they say that five is abundance, and each one has a different leaf imprinted on it, with autumn colors, colors that, while they may bring back memories or nostalgia, shine and in turn can bring joy.
The one I like best is the leaf that looks like a vine, which are two together. It was the first one that inspired me to draw, and then the others came. It wasn't difficult for me. I haven't painted in a while, a few months. Many things kept me from finding the desire to do so, but today the rocks asked me to paint them.
In my case as an artist, there are times when my hands don't feel the urge to paint, but I think that feeling is coming back. It often depends on what you're going through and on things that inspire you. Today was the day when they did.
The colors I wanted to use are mainly two shades of yellow, one lighter, the other stronger, then ochre, dark brown, red, and white. Also two shades of green and a little black. I wanted to paint all the leaves with these colors, but at the same time I wanted them all to be different, both in shape and color. I always used white to add light and created shadows or highlights in the background so that the leaves, which are the main focus, would stand out against the rocks.
The good thing is that I managed to find very white rocks, so I could work as if on a canvas. Sometimes dark rocks are better, but often they are not. I achieved the contrast I wanted, the light I wanted, and the colors were bright to bring life and joy to autumn.
Each tree produces leaves with its own shapes, and I love seeing such a variety of them. In autumn, in addition to a variety of shapes, there is a variety of warm tones, with the mixture of colors I used in them, and I love that. I'm sure my friend will like them and they will bring back memories, like autumn.
Thank you very much for joining me today. Best regards. See you soon.
