Weekend music and thoughts- - #saturdayselections

They say it’s better late than never, at least that’s what the old saying goes. Better to take action than to sit idly by; better to look forward than back. I’ve been told these things before, but I say them now because I’ve experienced them for myself, and what really counts in life are the experiences.

I always enjoy taking part in the community’s weekend topics; in fact, I’ve been doing so for over three years now, I think. I believe it’s a good way to share thoughts and experiences, learn from others, and perhaps help someone with a thought or opinion we offer. I usually prepare my post the day before, I do all my posts the day before, because I like to be organised, but last week I wasn’t able to take part. So I thought I’d share some thoughts, opinions and music I’ve been listening to this weekend.

Two of the topics raised last week concerned qualities needed on a CV, and I believe that organisation is precisely one of them. There will always be unforeseen events at work, things beyond our control, but being organised gives us a better sense of what’s ahead. And for those cases where, for whatever reason, we can’t be organised, improvisation and versatility are other qualities I consider important.

Someone who can react quickly to the unexpected, or when they have to change course or plans, is a good worker; a practical person who is quick-witted will perform much better.

Of course, there are many qualities, such as punctuality, honesty, sincerity, respect and positivity, things that are important in all aspects of life, and I believe that adaptability to circumstances is another necessary quality. There are simply too many.

And that is why I believe this topic goes hand in hand with another, which concerned the sort of people I find difficult to get on with, both at work and in life in general. Based on the criteria I mentioned earlier, I find it hard to get on with people who are idle, lazy, who expect results to fall from the sky without lifting a finger, or who take advantage of others’ efforts whilst they sit with their arms crossed. I cannot stand idleness.

I also find it hard to get on with self-centred people, who think they’re the centre of the universe and believe they’re always right. They’re people you can’t have a proper conversation with, in the useful sense of the word, because there’s never any chance with this sort of person. They don’t listen to anyone and will never admit to a mistake, because they’re the best at everything.

People who are violent or disrespectful in any way are also difficult to deal with, and this is linked to that ego, because when the ego becomes unhealthy, such people turn violent, especially with their words. This leads to a lack of respect, and that is something I cannot tolerate under any circumstances. Everyone has a way of thinking that might be useful to them, and it’s not my place to judge anyone, but I demand that same respect towards me. I believe that’s how, with respect, dialogue and hard work, good relationships are forged.

But today I also want to share two songs I’ve been listening to, mainly because I love the lyrics; they’re powerful in their words and can give you energy in difficult times.

Songs that encourage us never to give up, to keep fighting despite adversity, no matter how tough things may seem, to become invincible and face whatever is necessary and keep moving forward, always forward, because those who do not move forward are lost, those who do not keep walking do not live, and those who do not get up after a fall will not be able to see the good that comes after that dark day. That is what has motivated me about these songs.
