The Best Strategy for Equal Opportunity + Aim True — I Got an Amazing Victory
In any Splinterlands battle the most important part is the ruleset or modifiers. There can be up to three rules in a battle. These rules give you advantages, create restrictions and they are the main reason you plan your strategy.
Based on the ruleset you choose your monsters and decide their positions. If you understand the rulesets well almost 50% of your chance to win comes from making the right monster selections according to those rules.
Today I played a very interesting 53 mana battle. It was an exciting match because high mana battles allow you to select more monsters but they are also more difficult since both teams usually have monsters with high health and heavy damage.
lets look at the two special modifiers in this battle, what restrictions they created and what advantages they provided.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
The first ruleset was Equal Opportunity. In this ruleset every unit whether allied or enemy gains the Opportunity ability. This ability allows every monster to target the enemy unit with the lowest health.
Because of this your strategy should be to avoid placing your heavy damage attackers with very low health. Low health monsters will be eliminated first. You dont want your best healer or strongest attacker to be removed early as it can break your team combination and reduce your overall support.
Instead try to use weak units with low mana cost or choose low health monsters that have high armor. This keeps enemy monsters busy attacking them for several rounds while your strong tank monsters do their job.
AIM TRUE
The second modifier was Aim True. In this ruleset every unit gains the True Strike ability. This is an advantage for both teams because attacks can never miss.
That means you should not rely on monsters whose abilities are based on making enemy attacks miss, because in this ruleset every attack will hit successfully.
Keeping this in mind your strategy should be to choose monsters that deal heavy damage since every hit will land on the target.
Considering both of these rulesets my strategy was to choose an Archon that gives +1 Magic Attack so that all my magic monsters would receive extra magic power. As I mentioned earlier my focus was on selecting heavy damage dealers.
I placed a strong tank monster with double Strike at the front supported by both melee and magic attacks. As my secondary tank I used a monster with the Reach ability so it could keep attacking from the second position.
In the middle and back positions I used a mixed combination of magic and ranged attackers. Their job was to keep dealing continuous damage and not give the enemy a chance to eliminate my low health monsters too quickly.
The battle started in a very exciting way. Both teams kept attacking continuously. Unfortunately my opponent had more heavy hitters and my first two low health monsters were eliminated early.
The good thing was that my team made an excellent comeback. The battle became 3 vs 3 then 2 vs 2 and finally 1 vs 1.
In the end my last remaining allied monster fought well and secured an amazing victory for me.
It was a suspensed battle and until the very end it was impossible to predict who would win. However because of my monster selections and my special team combination I was able to win.
My favorite monsters in this battle were my mixed combination of magic and ranged attackers because their continuous attacks played the biggest role in securing this victory.
What strategy would you use in this type of ruleset? Which monsters would you give the highest priority? Will be glad to see your answers in the comment section.
