RED || DIY Crochet Mesh Hat.

It's been such a long time since I made any crochet head wear for myself. The last thing I remember making was a crochet beanie and as usual, it has probably been hijacked by an amazing individual.

Nonetheless, there's been this mesh crochet hat that I've kept on my “to make” list and I'm proud to say I've finally ticked it off my list. Walk with me as I take you through the process of making a crochet mesh hat in the color red.

Materials Needed

🤍: Yarn.
🤍: 4.5mm crochet hook.
🤍: Darning Needle.
🤍: A cutter.
🤍: Measuring tape.

Procedure

This crochet mesh hat turned out to be one of the easiest crochet items I've made in a while and I absolutely loved the final look.

For the first row of this project, I made a magic circle and then a chain of three which counts as a stitch. Into the magic circle, I made two double crochet stitches, a chain of two and another pair of double crochet stitches. I repeated this five times and by the end of the first row, I had ten double crochet separated by five chains of two. To end the row, I made a slip stitch into the first chain three stitch I made.

For row two, I made increases. To begin row two, I made a slip stitch into the nearest chain two space, made a chain of three and then proceeded to make three pairs of double crochet stitches into the same space, all of which were separated by chains of two. I repeated this into every chain two space until the end of the row. To end this row, I made a slip stitch.

For row three, I made alternating increases. The first space contained three pairs of double crochet stitches while the next space contained just two pairs. I kept alternating between two and three till the end of the row. To close up the row, I made a slip stitch.

For row four, I maintained the stitch count till the end of the row without making any increases or decreases. Into every space, I made two pairs of double crochet stitches separated by a chain of two.

I repeated the same pattern as row four till I got to row fourteen. This was the length I desired because I didn't want the mesh hat to be too long or too short. Ideally, some embellishments like beads, cowries or the likes may be added at this point to elevate the look of the hat but I believe the red colour speaks for itself and all the accessories wouldn't be necessary.

The last thing I did was to weave in my loose ends and this brought me to the end of this project. I love how well defined the pattern looks when worn.
