The Myth of Multitasking: Why Focus Is Your Superpower
We live in a society that worships continuous busyness. We answer our emails during meetings, listen to podcasts while preparing food, and constantly toggle between websites. We try to convince ourselves that we are hyper-productive, but science shows otherwise: multitasking is just a myth.
Your brain is not capable of doing two or more complicated things at the same time; it can't process multiple tasks at once. All it can do is quickly switch from one task to another.
If you want to become a productive person and achieve more, start practicing single-tasking:
Permit Rest: Constant switching does not allow your prefrontal cortex to rest, causing midday mental fatigue and careless mistakes.
Allow for Deep Flow: Breakthroughs in creativity occur at the moment of deep concentration on one problem.
Stop being proud of your capacity to multitask. Pick up one task, close all unnecessary pages, and focus on that task completely.
