The Subscription Apocalypse: Let Me Just Buy the Damn App
Remember when you could just buy something once and actually own it? Those days are officially dead. Everything — from a weather app to a basic text editor — requires a monthly subscription today. This is tiring and it has nothing to do with how much something costs; it is only about all the stress you have mentally from tracking multiple tiny transactions that are taking your money away from you monthly.
We are stuck in a never-ending cycle of living in a world where you can “permanently rent”.
No Ownership — When you stop paying for a subscription; you immediately lose your access rights and have nothing to show for many years of paying for whatever you owned.
Paywalled Basics — Companies are actively taking away the most basic features of their products; what used to be free, and are now hiding those features behind “premium” tiers in an effort to make you upgrade.
I do not want a long-term “relationship” with a scheduling application. I do not need a monthly timeline of features I will not use. Simply let me purchase the utility from you for one fair price and then give me my receipt and leave me alone!
Are you experiencing subscription fatigue? What is the most ridiculous product or service currently behind a paywall?
