Bacillus

Hello eveyone,the value of hive still below $1 and i don't know when will it cross $1.today i would like to te about Bacillus bacteria which many species.among them most important one is B.anthracis.

Virulence factors -
1)capsule - it is polypeptide made of polyglutamate.
2)anttax toxin - tripartite and has 3 factors edema factor,protective factor,lethal factor.

It is a zoonotic disease spread by cutaneous,inhalational,ingestion of animals.

Types of anthrax-
1)cutaneous anthrax (Hide porter's disease) - causes eschar (black),malignant pustule.
2)pulmonary anthrax (wool sorter disease) - it is associated with bioterrorism,haemorrhagic pneumonia.

Diagnosis -

Gram stain - bamboo stick appearance
Agar plate - medusa head
Gelatin stab - inverted fir tree
Solid media with penicillin - string of pearl
Selective media - PLET media
Antigen antibody test - ascoli thermoprecipitation test (ring ppt)
Antibody test - DFA
Lipid granules - SBB(burdon's method)

Another one is B.cereus.it is normal habitant of soil.it is motile,non encapsulated.it is present in food items like milk,veggies,cereals,chinese.it causes food poisoning and is of two types - diarrheal type, emetic type.emetic type is due to chinese food and it occurs in first 5 hrs of intake and serotypes are of 1,3,5 will show this one.diarrheal type is seen after intake of meat and veggies after 8-16 hrs.

Diagnosis -
Selective media -MYPA ,PEMBA

B.thuringiensis - it is a larvicidal agent used for mosquito control.

Here are some more types-

B.stearothermophilus - used as control for autoclave
B.subtilis - used as control for plasma sterilisation
B.pumilis - used as control for IR
B.globigi - used as control for gas sterilisation(ethylene oxide).
