Description from Strava:
I ran in Leicester last week, but I am back home now to run my local parkrun. It has turned a little cooler so that is some relief. I was out at the open mic across the road last night so I played lots of drums and got to bed late. I did not sleep too bad, but awake earlier than I wanted.
After some breakfast I jogged down to the start where lots of people were gathering. As is often the case I had no idea how I would do. I had not run for a few days, but did not feel particularly energetic.
I just went with what felt okay. I was battling through the crowds for a while until it got spread out. Some people I know were well ahead by the time we passed the finish after the first half lap, but I run my own race. As I started the last lap an older guy came past me and I tried to keep up with him. I actually did pretty well at that as he was just ahead at end, but my friend Jeff passed me on the finishing straight after using me as a pacer. That did spur me to give an extra kick to the finish.
The time was okay, but I have been quicker this year and hope to improve. I need to do more speed workouts as well as the easy runs. My pace was fairly consistent apart from a bit of a dip on the third kilometre.
As usual we went for coffee at the camp shop. There were loads of kids around as they have just finished school for the summer. They tend to buy novelty stuff in the shop. I had a chat with the father of one of the regulars who was doing his second parkrun. He is in his 70s, so that is impressive.
I am watching some of the Diamond League athletics from London on TV. Josh Kerr is going for a mile record later, so that could be interesting.
Stay well and run free!
