Fungi Friday - Cold Summer Finds

It is time for another #fungifriday

Now that we have a cold summer because of El Nino many spring and fall mushrooms are still growing.

I found a small piece of a broken branch with wood ear growing on it.

1000005588.jpg
It is strange as this one piece of wood was by itself in a grassy field with woodear on it.

1000005585.jpg
I looked for more branches but found none. This stuff is great for harvesting then drying to use later in ramen soup.

Next up is a deer shield mushroom.

1000005687.jpg
You can tell by the darker brown center on the cap and white ivory gills.

1000005686.jpg
These are also edible but make sure you check carefully as there are poisonous lookalikes.

Next up is a meadow mushroom on the older side. The gills have turned dark brown. I prefer harvesting them when they have pink gills for a definitive ID as this also has poisonous lookalikes.

Now for some kind of white amanita that my daughter found.

I find many sorts of white unidentifiable mushrooms like this. Too many lookalikes to ID it. For foraging keep to easily identifiable mushrooms.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

I like to draw and play an assortment of stringed instruments and drums. Prepare for lots of mushrooms and nature photography on this channel as well.
