Mushroom Monday - Soft Polypores

Here are a few soft polypores and a few others for this #mushroommonday

My daughter found these while we were on a walk.

These are in a guttation phase from summer rain where it has to get rid of extra liquid.

This one is starting to dry and and someone rodent has been chewing on it. Maybe it knows it has medicinal properties.

This thing will eventually dry up into a lava rock looking thing and fall off the tree.

First it turns red which confuses me thinking it is some kind of reishi. But then it turns black and crumbly. I used to know in a prior post the obscure Latin name of this thing.

Now for some turkeytail. You can see the nice big teeth underneath.

These are a good medicinal but you have to be able to differentiate it from false turkeytail.

This is the same color and almost pattern but it is false turkeytail.

False turkeytail is thinner and curls upward. The pores underneath are fine and more smooth compared to the more toothy true turkeytail. This is not poisonous but it has no medicinal properties.

Now for a sad miss on my part. A dried up summer oyster.

If I had found this earlier I would have harvested it but now it is tough and dry. Plenty more will show up this fall though.
