Feathered Friday - Very Branchy

Here are a few sightings for #featheredfriday that are quite cluttered with branches.

My first sighting was an Eastern Wood-Pewee.

These guys are super tiny maybe about 2x the size of a hummingbird. Barely bigger than a gnat catcher.

They have a distinct call that sounds like their name. Pewweeee. Very useful little fly catchers that reduce annoying insect populations.

From a distance I thought this was an American Goldfinch.

But then it turned around and I saw it was a Northern Yellow Warbler. These poor guys get their nests raided by Copper Headed Blackbirds and end up raising their chicks for them. Often the larger blackbird chick pushes the smaller warblers out of the nest.

Here is a common but interesting sight. A Catbird. They make all kinds of weird noises like a mockingbird but have a distinct call that sounds like a mewing kitten hence their common name of Catbird.

Just a common nuthatch about to hide behind this branch. I caught him mid-scramble.

Finally one without branches in the way. But now it was too high up in the sky. Just a common Red-Tailed hawk looking for rabbits to descent on in the prairie.
