Fried Dragon Fruit Balls

Fried dragon fruit balls are a simple dish I make by mixing dragon fruit with flour and then frying it. For the final touch, I dust them with powdered sugar, which makes them taste very much like donuts.

Vegan lovers, you’ve probably made fried dishes many times before. Well, this time, to mix things up, I intentionally prepared a fried dish with a cute shape. Of course, I used all-natural ingredients that make the colors even more appealing.

In a previous post, I tried making dragon fruit oatmeal porridge it was absolutely delicious. I also mentioned I’d turn dragon fruit into something tasty: a unique snack for a relaxing treat. I was inspired to create this snack by a friend’s social media post—she made dragon fruit balls that looked absolutely irresistible. Just like banana fritters, the dragon fruit is mixed with flour and deep-fried until cooked through. This dish is known as “dragon fruit balls”—a simple treat with a unique flavor. Ingredients

50 grams of dragon fruit
120 grams of all-purpose flour
Hot water, as needed
3 tablespoons of cornstarch
1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
¼ teaspoon




Making Procedure


Mash the dragon fruit with a fork, then add granulated sugar and salt, and stir until well combined.

Add the flour, cornstarch, and baking powder; mix everything until well combined, then slowly add hot water.

Next, knead the dough until it’s well combined and no longer sticks to your hands, then shape it into balls of your desired size.

Once everything is ready, fry the balls over low heat in hot oil until they’re cooked through, stirring occasionally.

The color remains beautiful after frying. The tip is to fry over low heat and stir frequently. However, if you prefer a crispier texture, you can fry the ghatus until the color is lighter and slightly brown. It all comes down to personal preference; you can adjust accordingly.

Well, the final result after frying was evenly cooked, with a slightly chewy but not hard texture—I think this texture is a little better. I added some donut sugar at the end because the flavor wasn’t really that sweet. After adding the donut sugar, it tasted sweeter and was very similar to a traditional village-style donut—but in a mini version. I think this makes a perfect snack for relaxing on a weekend like this, especially on such a productive day with my husband at home.
