Apadana Palace

This is neither Stonehenge, though these weathered monoliths could mislead you. This is the majestic and eerie rock-hewn palace called the Apadana (meaning “The Place of Arrivals”) in Persepolis, an ancient Persian city near Shiraz, founded by Darius the Great.

But if you look closely at these austere, monumental structures, you will notice that they are made of giant stone blocks, some of which weigh dozens of tons, cut with exquisite precision and fitted together without cement.

Nevertheless, this great capital and ceremonial center of the Achaemenid Empire was burnt down and destroyed by Alexander the Great.

Did you ever walk through the ancient historical sites and feel the mystery around you?
