Graphosoma italicum

I was pulling grass in the garden, that is, I was pulling out the leftover onions and weeding the garden. A red-black beetle caught my eye. The color itself warns that the beetle is "dangerous." I assumed it was some kind of bedbug, better known in our country as a stink bug.

In this part of the garden, besides onions, there is also a lot of dill, and when I investigated this type of beetle a little better, I found out that it feeds on dill, wild carrots, parsley and fennel. The dill had already bloomed, so I wasn't too worried about my garden.

Graphosoma italicum is popularly known as the striped stink bug or pajama bug due to its specific appearance. The body is bright red or orange with black longitudinal stripes on the back. Bright colors serve as a warning to predators (birds) that the insect is unpalatable and emits an unpleasant odor in defense. This insect is completely harmless to humans.
