Summer Job Diaries: My First Day Working at Our Municipality and the Start of a New Journey
Have you ever experienced having a summer job? Well, I have! This summer, I was given the opportunity to work in our municipality, and it has already become a memorable experience for me.
Since this summer job has been full of new experiences, I decided to share my journey through a series of diary entries. From Day 1 until the very end, I'll be sharing the memories and moments along the way.
Welcome to my Summer Job Diaries!
I found out about the summer job program in our municipality through my classmate. She had already experienced working there last year, and after hearing about it, I became interested in applying. I wanted to earn some money as preparation for college and to help with my future expenses.
My classmate told me that it would be easier to get in if I knew someone who was already a regular employee at the municipal hall because, according to her, most of those who get accepted have "connections" Fortunately, my cousin, Sir Ron, works there and even has his own office, so I asked him to help me get my name on the list.
My cousin Airha also wanted to join, so she signed up as well. However, Sir Ron initially told us that only I could be included because all the slots had already been filled and there was no available slot left for Airha. Because of that, Airha felt disappointed, and I felt sad for her too because I really wanted us to experince the summer job together.
First Day, Kinda Nervous.
My first day was really unexpected. I thought it wouldn't start because we weren’t informed about the exact schedule. Then one morning while I was sleeping, my mom suddenly woke me up because Sir Ron had messaged her that the summer job was starting that day.
I hesitated for a moment if I should still go because it was already around 9 a.m., and I was worried that I might not be accepted anymore since I was late.
Thankfully, I was still accepted. Since I arrived late, Sir Ron didn't let me join the orientation anymore. Instead, I was directly brought to his office, where I was given my first task.
My First Task
My first task was to make a program flow for a basketball awarding ceremony. At first, I really didn’t know how to do it. I was hesitant because I was afraid they might not like what I would make. Thankfully, Sir Ron gave me a guide, which helped me understand what to do. I started working on it right away, but it took me a long time to finish because the WiFi was very slow.
While I was working on the program flow, Sir Ron and his workmates talked about how many people had backed out of the summer job, so they needed someone to fill the remaining slots. Then Sir Ron suggested adding Airha, and I was really happy when she was finally included too. I immediately messaged her, and she said she would go to the municipality in the afternoon, and she sounded very happy as welll.
While I was waiting for Airha, someone entered Sir Ron's office, and at first I thought she was a teacher. She asked me if it was Sir Ron’s office, and I said yes, then I explained that I was doing a summer job. She then said she was also there for the summer job, and I laater found out that Sir Ron was the one who let her in.
Afternoon
Airha finally arrived after I finished eating lunch, and she looked really happy. There were four of us in Sir Ron’s office: me, Airha, Ate Roczan, the one I initially thought was a teacher, and Kuya Clark.
After a little chitchat with Airha, we started working on the program flow. After several revisions, we finally finished it, printed it, and distributed copies to the necessary people, including the mayor and vice mayor.
First Task Done
I felt proud of myself. Even though the task seemed simple, it was a meaningful experience for me because it was my first time working and getting paid at the same time.
First Day, Check!
My first day at the summer job is finally done. It was unexpected, a bit stressful at first, but also exciting and fulfilling. I learned a lot, met new people, and experienced real work for the first timme. I’m proud of myself for getting through it.
That would be all, thank you for reading. See you in the next blog!
