"Pelican Poop"

Oh what joy it would be, to be able to spend a peaceful
Summer afternoon idyll at the beach. To just be able
To leave the cares and worries of day to day life
At home, and let the waves and sun wash my
Spirit clean of all that stress. Just my luck,
Some Pelican would poop on my head.

Years ago, at one of my very infrequent visits to

Tybee Beach, off Savannah Georgia, I was enjoying the
unusual sensation of bobbing around in the salt water,
being moved and splashed by waves and jostled by
My family members who had come along as well.

Someone said “Look, a ‘V’ shaped flight of Pelicans”
I looked up, and indeed that was exactly what had
just passed overhead.
About that time, all around me the waters surface
exploded as volleys of Pelican poop hit the water
all around us, and at least one on my head.
I’ve never liked being in the
ocean at the beach since then
