Pistachio Baklawa

Welcome the warm embraces of Middle Eastern flavors into your kitchen with this Pistachio Baklava Delight. This decadent dessert combines layers of delicate phyllo dough with a rich filling of ground pistachios, all drenched in a luscious homemade simple syrup. Perfect for celebrating special occasions like Ramadan, this baklava offers a heavenly balance of textures and flavors, bringing loved ones together in sweet harmony.

Ingredients

🥣 2 boxes phyllo dough (divide into three parts)
🥜 4 cups raw unsalted pistachios (ground)
🧈 4 sticks unsalted butter
🍯 3-4 cups simple syrup (find the recipe on my page)


Instructions

1- Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.

2- Prepare the Pistachios:

  • Use a food processor to finely grind the raw pistachios into a coarse powder, set aside.

3- Melt the Butter:

  • Melt the butter in a pot over low heat on the stove or in the microwave until completely liquid.

4- Prepare the Phyllo Dough:

  • Open the phyllo dough packages and divide each into three equal parts.
  • Lay a damp towel over the unused sheets to prevent drying.

5- Assemble:

  • Brush the bottom of your baking pan with melted butter.
  • Lay about 14-15 sheets of phyllo dough in the pan, brushing the top with melted butter.
  • Evenly spread half of the ground pistachios over this layer.
  • Add another 14-15 sheets of phyllo, brushing again with butter, and layer with the remaining pistachios.
  • Finish with a final layer of 14-15 phyllo sheets.

6- Butter and Slice:

  • Pour the remaining melted butter over the top layer, tilting the pan to cover evenly.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut the baklava into squares or diamonds.

7- Bake:

  • Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 40-50 minutes, or until golden brown, rotating the pan halfway through.

8- Add Syrup:

  • Upon baking completion, remove the pan from the oven and immediately pour the cooled simple syrup evenly over the baklava.
  • Allow it to soak for at least 4 hours at room temperature.

9- Garnish and Serve:

  • Garnish with additional chopped pistachios before serving for an extra touch of elegance and flavor.
