Chicken Shawarma 2

Ingredients

๐Ÿ— 4 small chicken breasts, sliced into thin bite-size strips
๐Ÿฅค 1/2 cup white vinegar
๐Ÿซ’ 1/4 cup olive oil
๐Ÿง„ 4 cloves of garlic, minced
๐Ÿง„ 1 teaspoon garlic powder
๐Ÿง… 1 teaspoon onion powder
๐ŸŒถ๏ธ 1 teaspoon paprika
๐ŸŒฟ 1 teaspoon cumin
๐ŸŒฟ 1 teaspoon coriander
๐ŸŒถ๏ธ 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
๐ŸŒฟ 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
๐ŸŒฟ 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
๐ŸŒถ๏ธ 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
๐Ÿง‚ 1/2 tablespoon salt

๐Ÿง… 1 red onion, sliced
๐ŸŒฟ Handful of parsley, chopped
๐ŸŒฟ 1 tablespoon sumac

๐ŸŒฏ Tortillas, pita bread, or flatbread
๐Ÿ… Tomatoes, sliced
๐Ÿฅ’ Pickles, sliced
๐Ÿง„ Trader Joeโ€™s garlic dip or your preferred garlic sauce


Instructions

1- Prepare the Marinade:

  • In a large bowl, combine the white vinegar, olive oil, minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cumin, coriander, chili flakes, turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, and salt. Mix well.

2- Marinate the Chicken:

  • Add the sliced chicken breast to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, ideally overnight for maximum flavor.

3- Cook the Chicken:

  • Heat a skillet over high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until all the liquid evaporates and the chicken is thoroughly cooked, with a golden sear, about 10-12 minutes.

4- Make the Sumac Onions:

  • In a separate bowl, combine the sliced red onion with chopped parsley and sumac. Toss gently to mix and let it sit for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.

5- Assemble the Shawarma Wraps:

  • Lay out your choice of wrap (tortilla, pita, or flatbread). Spread a generous amount of garlic dip or sauce on the bread.
  • Add the cooked chicken, sumac onions, sliced tomatoes, and pickles on top. Roll the wrap tightly.

6- Toast the Wraps:

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the wrapped shawarma onto the skillet and toast on both sides until golden and crisp.

7- Serve:

  • Serve the shawarma wraps immediately, enjoying the warm, aromatic flavors.
