step-by-step cutting and sewing process for a Printed Long-Sleeve Blouse for myself
Hello Hive
Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a great night’s rest. How was the weather over there? Mine was cold, just like yesterday and today. I’ll be sharing with you how I made this stylish blouse for myself.
stylish blouse features a simple neckline, fitted body, elegant bell sleeves, and full inner lining for comfort and durability. It is suitable for Ankara, crepe, chiffon (with lining), or any medium-weight fabric if you want to try yours.
Materials Needed
Main fabric: 2 yards
Lining fabric: 1½ yards
Matching thread
Tailor’s chalk
Measuring tape
Scissors
Sewing machine
Pins and iron
Cutting Process
Take Measurements
Measure bust, waist, hip, shoulder, blouse length, sleeve length, and armhole.
Fold the fabric neatly with the right sides facing each other, ensuring the print alignment is straight. Draft the basic blouse pattern on the fabric
include a center slit opening from the neckline 3 by 3 connect the point to make round shape after that I came down by 4 inches of neck opening .
Slit opening for the waistline I came down by 2 inches from the waistline and go inward by 1.5inches from the center length of the dress then connect also I want a curve at side edges so I go up by 2.5 from the original line then connect it back. Add seam allowances (2 inch) around all . For the Front bodice I cut (two separate pieces due to center slit).
Back bodice (on fold)
Draft the basic bodice in add 1.5 for zip allowance
Repeat the same steps for the lining fabric, ensuring the lining matches the main fabric pieces exactly.
Cut the Bell Sleeves
Draft sleeve pattern by widening the hem of a basic sleeve. The bell shape should flow outward from the elbow or upper arm, depending on preference. Cut two sleeves from the main fabric and two from the lining.
Sewing Process
Join the Bodice
Sew the front and back bodice pieces together at the shoulders and side seams for both the main fabric and lining separately. Press seams open.
Attach the Sleeves
Sew the sleeve lining to the main sleeve at the hem, turn neatly, and press. Attach each sleeve to the armhole, matching notches carefully.
Join Lining to Main Fabric
Place the lining and main blouse right sides together. Sew around the neckline. Turn inside out and press flat for a clean finish.
Secure the Lining
Under-stitch the neckline if necessary and tack the lining at the side seams to prevent shifting.
Finish the Hem
Fold and stitch the blouse hem neatly. Ensure the lining is slightly shorter than the outer fabric for comfort.
Final Touches
Press the entire blouse, check for loose threads, fix zipper and ensure the bell sleeves fall evenly.
Front and back views of the dress
I will not take your kind gesture and words of encouragement for granted. They keep inspiring me to do better day by day. Have a lovely day.
