MY MOM’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Last January 25, it was my Mom’s birthday. But sadly, I was not home because of the scheduled thesis defense we had the next day after her birthday. I spent the days facing the piece of papers, and trying to have deeper understanding about our research study.

I don’t know if she felt bad that I wasn’t home during her birthday, but I always have plans for her special day. I already decided to throw a simple birthday party for her on the weekend after my thesis defense.

After our defense at my school, I headed home immediately. It was a Friday morning when I started planning about the foods that I will buy, the drinks, and who am I going to invite. It went smooth, and the final day to hold my Mom’s birthday party was Sunday. It was the best choice since it is also my brothers’ rest day at work, and the rest of the family too. When it was already settled, I started listing down the foods that my Mom wants.

My partner, Darren, sent money to me and told me to buy a cake for my Mom. The first thing I bought this Sunday morning was a cake, with greetings written on it. After that, we went to the public market and bought the ingredients for “Pancit Guisado” and “Spaghetti.” Also, I did not forget to request for “Lumpiang Shanghai” as it’s one of our favorites.

We headed home after buying the ingredients, and then cooked lunch. The birthday party was celebrated around 4:00 in the afternoon, so we first had our family lunch. My Mom requested for fish and vegetables as our viand, and she invited some relatives and friends to eat with us.

After eating our lunch, we started cooking the foods and preparing for the party. And one of the most important parts of every birthday celebration in our family is to rent out a karaoke, which we did. The cooking and preparation took us hours. And around 4:00 in the afternoon, a few guests came over.

We just sang a Happy Birthday song before we started the feast. It was just a simple and ordinary celebration for us, but it was full of laughter, conversations, and great moments to live up for.
