Lunch Cravings: Cooking Bicol Express for the Family
I woke up happy, thinking that I don't have to go to work early - it's a day off from the office. I enjoyed my slow morning as I sipped on my cup of coffee, with a lot of plans running through my head for the whole day. After having my breakfast, I couldn't stop thinking about Bicol Express.
The tasty pork filled with white sauce, and having some spiciness in it. It kept me drooling until I found myself wanting to cook it. I asked my partner if we could go to the public market in town to buy the ingredients. Lucky me, I do have a very supportive lover. He likes it when I have a dish I want to cook in mind. Even though I do not have such good cooking skills, he loves everything I cook for the family.
When we arrived at the market, I bought 1 kilogram of pork and asked the seller to chop it into tiny pieces. We headed to the vegetable section and bought some green chili and green beans. Then, I got all the seasonings I needed, including salt, Ajinomoto, shrimp paste, and coconut milk. We headed home right away after buying everything, then I started preparing all the ingredients and set them aside. I stir-fried some sliced onion and garlic in a heated pan.
After a few minutes, I added the sliced pork. I waited until they were golden brown before adding the seasonings and the coconut milk. I also added a cup of water so the pork would be cooked perfectly. I wanted to make it tender for the kids. I tried eating a portion of the pork, and it was already cooked well. I put the green beans next and let them cook along with the pork. Upon tasting the sauce, it was good. I also asked my partner to try it so I would know what to do and adjust, but he said it tasted good already.
The next thing I did was add the sliced green chili. I did not put much since there are kids who would also eat later on. I don't want it to be too spicy for them. After cooking Bicol Express and rice, I started setting up the table where we would be sharing this delicious meal. My older brother bought Coca-Cola drinks to make the whole lunch perfect.
Then, I called everyone to the table to enjoy our lunch. Even though I am not good at cooking, I feel happy whenever they give comments like it is delicious. This is my first time cooking Bicol Express, and I will definitely cook it again. I am still looking forward to more cooking series and more recipes to learn!
