The Preferred Candidate Performed Below Bare Minimum

Bare minimum

Hello #freewriters friends, I trust your weekend is going well. I welcome you to my blog.

In our last recruitment exercise, I screened some candidates to go through a written assessment, and the bare minimum requirement is a trade test certificate.

On that fateful day, all the candidates were present, something I was very happy about. However, there was this candidate I had an eye for because the person performed above the bare minimum during the pre-interview stage. Hence, I was expecting a similar or even an outstanding performance from the candidate.

At the scheduled time, the candidates were taken to the assessment lab where systems were set for the test. The test ran for 45 minutes, and even before the time was up, some candidates had completed the test and submitted their papers,

Meanwhile, my preferred candidate did not submit until the system timed out, and as a result, the candidate’s test was auto-submitted.

Expecting the best from the candidate, I rushed through my system only to find out that the candidate only did the bare minimum and, as a result, could not move to the final stage of the recruitment.

It was a difficult situation for me, but out of respect for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), I bid farewell to the candidate and moved on with those who had advanced to the final stage.
