Entry to the Round 272 Reflection Hunters Contest - Reflections in the Mud / Reflejos en el Lodo

Believe it or not, my community is just a few meters from downtown, yet its streets are still unpaved. As a result, they bear the marks of a harsh natural environment that is untamed. They are constantly overgrown with weeds, and their surface is uneven; but when it rains, the water shows no mercy, as pits and puddles form randomly, with varying depths, turning travel through this space into a true adventure.

Aunque parezca increíble, mi comunidad se encuentra a pocos metros del centro de la ciudad, pero aun así sus calles siguen siendo de tierra. Por lo tanto, están marcadas por las inclemencias de un entorno natural que es indomable. Constantemente se llenan de maleza, su superficie es irregular, pero cuando llueve el agua no da tregua, puesto que se forman pozos y charcos de manera aleatoria, con profundidades diversas, lo cual hace que transitar por este espacio se convierta en un verdadero juego de aventuras.

But at the same time, the water, the puddles, and the daylight give us a golden opportunity to capture those reflections that are part of this natural environment, since the liquid surface, when still, becomes a true makeshift mirror, which projects directly toward the sky; yet at the same time, on some occasions we manage to discover other elements, such as walls, cables, and poles.

Pero al mismo tiempo el agua, los charcos y la luz del día nos regalan la oportunidad de oro para capturar esos reflejos que forman parte de este ambiente natural, puesto que la superficie líquida, al mantenerse sin móvil, se convierte en un verdadero espejo improvisado, el cual proyecta directamente hacia el cielo; pero al mismo tiempo, en algunas ocasiones logramos descubrir otros elementos, como paredes, cables y postes.

This is a land with an incredible level of absorption; for this reason, the reflections formed in the makeshift pools don’t usually last very long. Therefore, hunting for reflections under these conditions becomes a race against the clock, since in the blink of an eye the ground is close again, the water disappears, and the dust rises.

Esta es una tierra que cuenta con un nivel de absorción increíble; por esta razón, los reflejos formados en los pozos improvisados no suelen durar mucho tiempo. Por lo tanto, cazar reflejos bajo estas condiciones se convierte en una actividad contra el reloj, ya que en un abrir y cerrar de ojos la tierra vuelve a estar cerca, el agua desaparece y el polvo se levanta.
