I found myself wondering if it might be good to get really enthusiastic about something every once in a while. When I paint, I enjoy the feeling that it transforms my brain - I do get completely absorbed in it, but it’s not quite the same as being “enthusiastic.” Other than that, I lead a very laid-back, peaceful life, so I’m far removed from that kind of fervor. I think I used to get really excited watching baseball or soccer games back in the day, but now I just think it sounds exhausting. I guess I’m getting old.

たまには何かに熱狂した方がいいのかなと思った。絵を描くのはそれによって脳が変容する感じを喜んでいるという感じで、確かに夢中になるけれども熱狂というのとはちょっと違う。それ以外の私は本当にのんびりして、穏やかに過ごしているから、熱狂からは縁遠い。昔は野球やサッカーなど観戦に行って、それで熱狂していたと思うけれど、今となってはしんどそうと思ってしまうなあ。私も年を取ったものだ。
