Castlevania Rondo of Blood Fan Port to Sega Genesis Shown

Fans of Castlevania will want to check this fan port, work in progress, out. Apparently being developed using C and the Sega Genesis Development Kit (SGDK), this fan port already looks amazing, but far from complete.

Another Direct Comparison Title

Anyone that was gaming when the Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 were launched may remember the side by side comparisons. Whether it was a store or in gaming publications, the big thing to do was display the two consoles side by side playing the same, or similar, games.

I remember Montgomery Ward did this in some of their stores. I don’t remember them actually using titles that were available on both platforms such as Aero Blasters. Instead they used what I call “adult best guesses” probably based on box art. I know Altered Beast was pitted against Keith Courage the first time I saw a comparison setup there.

Soon fans can add Castlevania Rondo of Blood to the comparison mix.

That is as long as Konami doesn’t shut this project down.

Not Likely to Be Shut Down

Konami has been quite cool with fan projects. Really only having a problem with those that tried to financially benefit from the fan ports.

They won’t give approval but they also won’t sick their lawyers on fans (like Nintendo or Square Enix will).

With that said, there are obviously going to be some downgrades with this fan port. The PC Engine Super CD-ROM original featured anime style cutscenes. According to Time Extension this was possible due to the CD-ROM format allowing for amazing musical tracks as well.

The improved audio will only be available via specific emulators and flash carts if you are playing on original hardware.
