Day 25:) Railway Visualization

I was travelling back to Delhi today via train. I had some observations that I would like to share. I am very thankful to the Indian Railway for completion of the journey on time without any major challenges. There will be always scope of improvement to make the product form better to the best one. Narrating some of the points which needs GOI’s (government of India) attention

The government is supporting the cash less economy in full fledge but still the railway counters do most of the transaction on cash. If the government start accepting only digital money it will be a great boost to the cashless economy. Though, the government directly can’t deny the legal tenders, but it must come up with middle solutions which give energizes the digital flow on money too. Secondly, the reservation chart is still in paper. Hope the TTE’s get a tablet or any other e-device soon. Moreover, the charts in station are also not yet digitized.
Thirdly, Smoke detectors must be installed in the coaches. Though, smoking is illegal in train, many passengers take it lightly. It was difficult to breathe at times.

The GOI is so supportive of renewable energy, particularly solar energy. Still, Indian railway doesn’t have a completely developed solar engine, though we have some solar powered DEMU (diesel electrical multiple unit). May be in near time we can see a solar powered train. Another initiative by the GOI, Swach Bharat, is lacking in implementation. The cleanliness needs more attention. It is no doubt that it has improved a lot since a couple of years back but there is more scope of betterment.

Lastly, the government needs more revenue for Railways however it is not innovating. It can provide a variety of entertainment services throughout the journey. Additionally, like Delhi Metro, it can advertise on the coaches. It will generate a lot of money for the railways.
