Happenings Around the Yard - This and That - by Sunscape
Except for two days of rainfall, the weather has been wonderful. The plants in the vegetable garden are thriving, and the flowers are blooming everywhere.
The pink Poppies are putting on a show this week, and I've seen the honeybees going to town on the pollen.
I sapped a photo of this little guy on a freshly opened zinnia.
It was early morning, and he was just starting to gather. You can see a little pollen on his leg.
Earlier in the week, I took this photo of the butterfly garden. The daisies were just starting to open along with the Nasturtiums on the border.
The daylilies are to the left of the bird house post but not seen in the above snapshot.
At the pond by the porch, facing south, the Impatiens and Larkspur are blooming. I also noticed that the Crocosmia is starting to send up shoots for flowers. That is one of my all-time favorite flowers.
Looking north from the porch steps, the view is quite different. I get to enjoy watching the entire yard's activities from my chair.
It is always a delight, when one of the birds takes a bath in this birdbath that I made for the bees.
The hanging basket of petunias has been fun to have this year. All the flowers look unique, and only a few of them have had no color at all.
While sitting on the porch watching the rain, the frog jump up on the rocks and sat there waiting patiently for something to eat.
This male sparrow likes to sit underneath my chair during the rain. He keeps an eye on his house next to the pond while staying dry. Pretty cleaver of him, I think.
This young doe was headed for the bird feeder until she saw me and decided to head back to the woods. She did stop at the compost pile to nibble on some of the vegetable scraps from the garden.
So far this spring, I have not seen any fawns. This has to be the first year since living here that they have missed playing in the neighbors back yard.
Porch time with Mika, she loves lying in the sun next to my chair. It was another wonderfully warm day. This week is supposed to get back to higher temperatures and I plan on spending time floating in the pool. Whoohoo!
