Hello to all members of this community and cat lovers! After two nights sleeping outside our apartments due to the two earthquakes in Caracas, Venezuela, we finally felt safe enough to not only spend more time inside our apartments but also to sleep in them. This news from the firefighters and the civil engineer was very welcome, not only for us, who were sleeping in tents and cars, but also for our beloved pets, who were quite stressed from being taken out of their safe spaces and subjected not only to the noise but also to unfamiliar smells.

In the case of Ying and Cleo, my sister's cats, they both had to share the same carrier, which, although large, was still a very small space for two cats to spend so much time in. Of course, every so often, we would go up to the apartment to let the cats out for a few minutes so they could relieve themselves, but then they would go back into the carrier so they could be with us at all times.

During those hours, keeping both of them hydrated was the top priority, as well as taking them outside to be carried for a while so they could get some fresh air. Luckily, Ying remained quite calm throughout, however, Cleo was noticeably stressed by everything that was happening; not only had she recently been spayed, an experience that left her uncomfortable with the idea of ​​going outside, but now she had to be in a carrier, listening to the noises of people and other animals, because some dogs and cats were curious and approaching; which irritated Cleo...

Luckily, once the experts declared the buildings habitable, as they only had cracks, we could consider the idea of ​​spending the night in the apartments. We were a little scared, but the accumulated exhaustion from two nights sleeping uncomfortably in a small vehicle or on the floor of a tent overcame us quickly, and we were able to sleep soundly, including Ying and Cleo, who seemed grateful to be back sleeping in their comfortable nests.

It's comforting to see that, after such a stressful few hours, Ying and Cleo seem as calm and comfortable as ever. I was afraid they'd remain on high alert, as we humans still are. Of course, there have been some minor aftershocks; in fact, as I'm writing this, Cleo felt one and took cover in one of the rooms, but she calmly emerged a few seconds later and, after checking that everything was alright, went back to bed.

Now more than ever, I'm grateful that my cat Ikki is with my boyfriend in another state, where the earthquakes were barely felt. Ikki is the type of cat who runs away when he's scared, and it would have heartbroken me if he had gotten lost in the midst of that panic. Receiving a picture of him, so calm, enjoying the morning breeze, brought me peace:

I sincerely hope that all those pets separated from their owners by this tragedy in Venezuela can be found safe and sound. Let's not forget that they are part of our family, and the bond that unites us is strong 💝

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes de los gatos! Luego de dos noches durmiendo fuera de los apartamentos, debido a los dos terremotos ocurridos en Caracas (Venezuela), finalmente pudimos sentir la seguridad para no sólo estar más tiempo dentro de nuestros apartamentos, sino también, para poder dormir en los mismos. Esta noticia, por parte de los bomberos y el ingeniero Civil, fue muy satisfactoria, no sólo para nosotros, que estábamos durmiendo en carpas y en vehículos, sino también, para nuestras queridas mascotas, las cuales estaban algo estresadas por ser sacadas de sus espacios seguros y ser sometidas, no sólo al ruido externo, sino también a olores desconocidos.

En el caso de Ying y Cleo, los gatos de mi hermana, ambos tuvieron que compartir el mismo transportador que, aunque es grande, seguía siendo un espacio muy reducido para que un par de gatos pasaran tanto tiempo dentro. Por supuesto, cada cierto tiempo, subíamos al apartamento a liberar unos minutos a los gatos para que hicieran sus necesidades, pero luego, volvían al transportador, para que estuvieran con nosotros en todo momento.

Durante esas horas, mantener hidratados a ambos, era la mayor prioridad, así como sacarlos para tenerlos cargados en brazos un rato para que pudieran ventilarse. Por suerte, Ying se mantuvo bastante tranquilo durante todo ese tiempo, sin embargo, Cleo se notaba bastante estresada con todo lo que estaba pasando; no sólo había salido de su esterilización, hace poco, experiencia que la dejó incómoda con la idea de salir al exterior, sino que ahora, tenía que estar en un transportador, escuchando ruidos de personas y otros animales, porque algunos perros y gatos se sentían curiosos, acercándose; lo que provocaba que Cleo, se irritase...

Por suerte, una vez que los expertos declararon que los edificios eran habitables, ya que sólo presentaban fisuras, pudimos pensar en la idea de pasar la noche en los apartamentos. Estábamos algo asustados, pero el cansancio acumulado de dos noches durmiendo incómodamente en un pequeño vehículo o en el piso de una carpa, nos venció más rápido y pudimos dormir profundamente, incluidos Ying y Cleo, que parecían estar agradecidos con volver a dormir en sus cómodos nidos.

Me reconforta que, luego de unas horas tan estresantes, Ying y Cleo se vean tan tranquilos y cómodos como siempre. Temía que quedasen en estado de alerta, como lo estamos todavía los humanos. Claro, se han presentado algunas réplicas leves, de hecho, al momento de escribir estas líneas, se sintió una que Cleo percibió y la hizo ocultarse en una de las habitaciones, pero salió tranquilamente a los pocos segundos y al verificar que todo estaba bien, volvió a acostarse en el colchón.

Ahora más que nunca, estoy agradecida de que mi gato Ikki, se encuentre al cuidado de mi novio en otro estado, en donde los terremotos apenas y se percibieron. Ikki es el tipo de gato que huye, corriendo lejos cuando está asustado y me hubiera dado mucho dolor que se hubiera perdido en medio de ese susto. Recibir una fotografía suya, tan tranquilo, recibiendo la brisa de la mañana, me hizo sentir tranquila:

Espero de todo corazón que todas esas mascotas que fueron alejadas de sus dueños por esta tragedia ocurrida en Venezuela, puedan ser encontrados sanos y salvos. No olvidemos que ellos, son parte de nuestra familia y el lazo que nos une, es fuerte 💝
