Flea market
The little flea Henry and his littler sister Bonnie held hands as they entered the market. It was the first time they had ever visited the market without an adult chaperone, but their granny had died and they didn't want anyone to find out. The cupboards were very nearly empty and they couldn't survive on powdered blood much longer. All that was left of it was expired by about ten years, and they were starting to feel weak. Henry couldn't let Bonnie down; he was all she had left, and she was all he had left. He knew that if the Authority found out about Granny, they would be taken away and separated, probably sent to live on some mangy dog, and everyone knew that kind of hard work made short order of a flea. But no one valued children. So it was up to Henry to keep up appearances, at least until he turned of age and could become Bonnie's legal guardian. Then he could apply for them to live on a show dog or even a show cat, the pedigreed kind, and they'd be set.
