Random Summer Friday in Vermont

Rudbeckia

Greetings from a lovely day in Vermont. Smoke cleared out and both humidity and temperatures dropped. It got down to 51F last night ๐Ÿ™‚

Bee Balm

I shot a few photos as I went throught the day. Rudbeckia in the first shot and bee balm here. Both are in beds along our driveway.

Fencepost bed

We made some small beds at the base of some of the fenceposts in our garden. A zinnia made it to bloom even though several of its companions were munched on by deer ๐Ÿ™ We put morning glories in these beds and they quickly find the fence and start climbing.

Zinnia

These zinnia were planted by seed directly in the bed this spring.

Wild Raspberries

I spent alot of time watering young fruit trees this morning so I foraged berries in the surrounding forest. These are black caps - a type of wild raspberries that turn black when ripe. Black raspberries. Not blackberries but we do have some wild blackberries also. Blackberries are a little later than raspberries.

Small berries

These are a different wild raspberry that is smaller and stays red.

Cardinal

As you can tell probably tell by the poor picture quality, I shot this photo through a screened window. This cardinal was right outside the window I couldn't resist. And screens are a must with mosquitos in the summer.

Resident Blue Heron

On our afternoon walk, the resident blue heron was along Leicester River where is starts flowing out of Lake Dunmore.

Closeup

With some patience you can watch him fishing but herons have much greater patience or maybe just longer attention spans than me ๐Ÿ™„

Lake Dunmore

On our morning walk, the sky was clear which was a welcome sight. Although I think the winds are changing and smoke coming back tomorrow.
