The News

$HIVE may have hit an all time low recently, but we are still here and still doing better than the legacy coin. Blocks are still being processed and people are still developing.

Some blame the price on how much is given out by proposals. Several of them will expire in the next couple of weeks, including the big one to fund the work of @crimsonclad (as parodied by @blanchy). Some of the big projects will create new proposals to keep funding their development. @peakd have one that asks for less than before.

The economics of Hive are tricky in these circumstances and we have to consider what needs funding. I would hope that more projects can be self-funding, but the rewards system may not be enough.

You can have a say by voting up proposals and if you want less of them to get something then vote up the Return Proposal as that sets the threshold.

I have not seen a post, but there was an announcement on the @risingstargame Discord by @pinkfloyd878 to say that work is ongoing to move it to a more viable software stack. The data is being preserved so we will be able to continue from where we left off. I have missed the game, but then I have less stress about kicking off missions.

• @igormuba featured on the Hive Thrive show this week. That is every Tuesday on Discord where anyone can turn up to chat. He has been writing some posts about the Hive economics. We should be talking about that.
• @soundlegion has a new EP of atmospheric songs.
• @sagarkothari88 thought I should give him a mention. He is busily developing @hivesuite.app that has all sorts of apps and games. There is a challenge that can pay you something for promoting it.
• @roelandp put out a request for comments on whether @hivefest should get funding for another ChainCulture event and the response was generally negative. That is understandable given the situation mentioned above.
• @wellsforall has had Hive funding to install water wells in Ghana. They just posted an update.

Hive in the News

I found another mention of Hive on openPR. This time it was about @ecency in relation to the EU looking to reduce dependence on US platforms. Ecency are based in Lithuania. Some organisations are joining W, but I have heard that is closed source and lacking in transparency. Some think they should use Mastodon, but Hive is also decentralised.

I try to stay positive about Hive despite the issues. I have been here for almost ten years and seen a lot of changes. It has just never broken out into the mainstream. Despite that it can be fun if you find interesting people to follow and engage with. I do find that most of them are smarter than average, but I do not have to always agree with them. That does not have to be confrontational, but if you want that then you can find it. There is a low tolerance for anything seen as abuse and people will react accordingly. If you do not want it then stay away from such people.
