Small buildings / Pequeños edificios

I always say that if I hadn't studied journalism, I would have chosen to be an architect. I know these professions might not seem related 😄, but what is certain is that they both communicate things, don't you think?

Siempre digo que si no hubiera estudiado periodismo, habría optado por ser arquitecto. Sé que estas profesiones quizás no tengan nada que ver 😄, pero lo que es cierto es que también comunican cosas, ¿no creen?

I follow several architecture accounts on social media, and one of them has a series that occasionally features small buildings. Many of them might go unnoticed, but upon closer inspection, they have their own charm.

Sigo varias cuentas de arquitectura en redes sociales, y una de ellas tiene una serie que retrata de vez en cuando pequeñas edificaciones. Muchas de ellas quizás pueden pasar desapercibidas, pero al observarlas bien, tienen su encanto.

Since I liked that idea, I also started collecting photos of small buildings that exist in the city where I live, to share them here, to see what you think 😉.

Como me gustó esa idea, empecé también a recopilar fotos de pequeños edificios que existen en la ciudad donde vivo, para compartirlas aquí, a ver qué les parecen 😉.

These small buildings are located in different areas of the city of La Victoria, in Venezuela, and as you will see, most of them are simple constructions and no more than four stories high.

Estos pequeños edificios están en diferentes zonas de la ciudad de La Victoria, en Venezuela, y como podrán ir viendo, la mayoría son construcciones sencillas y de no más de cuatro pisos.

Also, most of them are old, and in some cases this is noticeable due to their condition, such as facades with faded paint and other signs of neglect.

Además, la mayoría de ellos son de vieja data, y en algunos casos esto se nota por las condiciones en la que están, como fachadas con pintura descolorida y otras señales de descuido.

This isn't something unique to this city, in other parts of Venezuela, the neglect of the urban landscape is also evident, a consequence of the difficult economic situation the country has faced in recent years. Maintaining a building in optimal condition is expensive.

Esto no es algo que se ve solamente en esta ciudad, en otras partes de Venezuela también se puede observar el descuido en el paisaje urbano, consecuencia de la difícil situación económica que el país atraviesa los últimos años. Mantener una edificación en óptimas condiciones es costoso.

Of course, depending on the style of each architectural design, the work may require more or less maintenance. For example, facades covered with granite or other materials such as decorative bricks only need cleaning and the occasional touch-up.

Claro, dependiendo del estilo de cada diseño arquitectónico, la obra puede necesitar más o menos mantenimiento. Por ejemplo, las fachadas cubiertas con granito u otro material como ladrillos decorativos, sólo necesitan limpieza y algún que otro retoque de vez en cuando.

When I set out to do this series, I thought I wouldn't find many interesting small buildings to photograph, but I was wrong. I think there will be a second and even a third post on this topic.

Cuando me propuse hacer esta serie, pensé que no encontraría muchos pequeños edificios interesantes para fotografiar, pero me equivoqué. Creo que habrá una segunda y hasta tercera publicación sobre este tema.

I enjoy photographing these aspects of a city or town; it's not just an aesthetic exercise, it's also a record that will remain for posterity. I hope you liked it 😉.

Me gusta retratar estos aspectos de una ciudad o pueblo; no es sólo un ejercicio estético, es también un registro que queda para la posteridad. Espero que les haya gustado 😉.
