Snapie's Workshop: Progress, Replays, and What's Next

Things are happening. Yes, still.

A few days ago I announced that I needed to get myself a new server for the witness node, and I'm happy to report that it's currently replaying the chain. This means, of course, that the next step is to hurry up and wait. A full replay can take a few days—that's just how big our chain has become—but it can't be helped, right?

At any rate, getting the witness back in order is not the only thing that's been occupying my time. As a matter of fact, I've been working really hard to make snapie.io a killer little app.

If you haven't visited snapie.io in a while, I want to invite you to check it out. It's not only a facelift—I hope that's evident—but also a collection of little improvements and features that, in my opinion, bring it up to modern expectations. Meeting those Web2 standards is no easy task.

And after so many commits, so many upgrades, and so many features already deployed, the show is nowhere near over. There are still plenty of tweaks to make and new features on the roadmap, and I can't wait to bring them to life.

I've been thinking—and I guess I'm doing so out loud right now—that it might be a good idea to integrate an off-chain system of snaps alongside the feed.

Why?

I can almost hear you asking.

For the same reason some of the most successful social platforms do it: onboarding. Lowering friction. Giving people an easy way to participate before introducing them to everything that Hive has to offer.

Of course, lots of thought has to go into such an endeavor, but I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the norm in the near future. Frontends that use Hive, but not exclusively, blending familiar Web2 technologies with Web3 infrastructure to reduce onboarding friction as much as possible.

Insane?

Never.

Needed?

I'm going to call it.

As I said at the beginning of this little PSA, I'm busy. Staying busy.

The markets are what they are. We can't control them, but we do have a choice. We can stare at the charts and allow desperation to seed itself in our throats, or we can spend that energy building things that might help shape tomorrow.

The latter seems like the sane choice, does it not?
