The French ship, Le Griffon, disappeared without a trace in the Great Lakes of Michigan, USA, in September 1679. The ship was last seen on its way to the Niagara Falls with an expensive cargo of fur and goods for trade. The ship was owned by the French explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle.

I do not know much about Canada, so I asked CoPilot why a French ship is significant to Canada, that they would celebrate the 300th anniversary of the ship Le Griffon.
