Read and live ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

And just like that a week has passed since I dropped my first poem analysis The Butterfly ๐Ÿฆ‹. I feel like it was received pretty well and so I decided to drop another one๐Ÿ˜ƒ.
Well I thought about what I said I was going to think about last week

about making a community and other stuffs ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well I decided against it๐Ÿ˜
Reason being that although everyone liked mine, there were no indications that anyone wanted to follow in my footsteps ๐Ÿ˜”

For shame ๐Ÿ˜”

Now let's calm down ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Nevertheless, a poem analysis community with only one member would be kind of sad so I decided what I'm gonna do with my posts....

Pretty much nothing left to do than make it a collection and pin it on my blog ๐Ÿ˜ƒโœจ

Seki the poem Analystโœจ

Has a nice ring to it innit ๐Ÿ˜

So here's my poem shared and my take for y'all ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

A Psalm of Life ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

2_20230324_185944_0001.png

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,

Life is but an empty dream!

For the soul is dead that slumbers,

And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!

And the grave is not its goal;

Dust thou art, to dust returnest,

Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,

Is our destined end or way;

But to act, that each to-morrow

Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,

And our hearts, though stout and brave,

Still, like muffled drums, are beating

Funeral marches to the grave.

In the worldโ€™s broad field of battle,

In the bivouac of Life,

Be not like dumb, driven cattle!

Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howeโ€™er pleasant!

Let the dead Past bury its dead!

Act,-act in the living Present!

Heart within, and God o' erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us

We can make our lives sublime,

And, departing, leave behind us

Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,

Sailing o' er life' s solemn main,

A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,

Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,

With a heart for any fate;

Still achieving, still pursuing,

Learn to labor and to wait.

Analysis

Now this seems more than a poem, this is more like the writing I'll frame and hang on my wall.
You can literally feel the good intent leaking out of these words, like a word from a father to his son.

Trust no future how' er pleasant

This line indeed hooked me. It goes to show just how fluid life could be, nothing is guaranteed in the future it means..
Either good or bad, it could still switch around.

I think the main point of this poem though is in the lines

Be a hero in the strife !

And

Act,-act in the living present.

It's a call to action I think, to not be swayed by the currents of life, do not be depressed nor give in to emotions.
We should take action with our lives, for it is just that.. ours.

He also mentions;

Lives of great men all remind us

Indeed, there are great people that do remind us of what we can do.
For if they did it, surely we can too๐Ÿ˜ƒโœจ
Make your lives sublime folks.

Although the line I love the most and the one I'll put a pin on is this

๐Ÿ“Learn to labor and to wait.

This is one line of advice that plenty people need to hear the most.
Most people decide to only wait and to only labor, well if you do it like that you'll either get half out of life or none at all.
Mastery of the two arts truly brings the most.
When it's time to work, you work,m and when it's time to wait, you wait. โœจ
