¡México haciendo historia en el Mundial! [ES-EN]

¡Hola amantes del deporte!

¿Saben ustedes que este martes 30 de junio la selección de México hizo historia al conseguir un quinto juego continuado por primera ocasión en los mundiales de fútbol? Pues sí, esta generación de jugadores están deleitando a todo un país y a aficionados suyos de todo el mundo con un juego armónico que ha logrado permanecer invicto y con sus porterías recibiendo cero goles hasta el momento.

Al instante en que redacto estas letras, está a punto de jugar el equipo de Inglaterra, a priori uno de los favoritos de esta edición mundialista y supuestamente el próximo rival de los aztecas en la próxima fase.

Y vean ustedes cómo lo causal se evidencia nuevamente. Acabo de ver recientemente la película México 86'.

Dirigida por Gabriel Ripstein, sin llegar a ser una película de grandes pretensiones artísticas, si considero debería ser vista por quienes aman el deporte y sus curiosidades.

Acá nos acercaremos al singular proceso que se llevó a cabo para lograr que el Mundial de Fútbol de 1986 se efectuara en México como primer país en repetir su sede, todo concretado gracias a la figura de Martín de Las Torre quien, al llegar a dirigir la federación mexicana de fútbol, pudo mostrar toda su creatividad para tales fines.

Les mencioné sobre lo causal porque, por un lado, justamente ese fue el primer Mundial de Fútbol que pude ver en mi infancia temprana, en televisores en blanco y negro.

Ahí fue cuando me quedé cautivado (y quedé siendo hincha de Argentina por siempre) por la actuación de Argentina y el gran Diego Armando Maradona como artífice de algo mágico, el mejor gol de la historia, precisamente ante los ingleses (a quienes anotó además ese mítico y picaresco gol nombrado La mano de Dios).

Todos esos acontecimientos, el valor que acarreaba para México conseguir ser sede del Mundial, desde lo político, lo social y lo económico, las artimañas detrás de toda gestión, el sufrimiento de los propios mexicanos y su felicidad, acá se nos muestra de forma tan dinámica, que estoy seguro agradecerán.

Como quiera que resulta un hecho histórico, que seguramente muchos desconocen, espero aprovechen alguna pausa entre partido y partido y se sumerjan en este audiovisual. Si ya lo hicieron, cuéntenme qué les pareció.

As I write this, the England team—on paper one of the favorites for this World Cup and supposedly the next opponent for the Aztecas in the upcoming round—is about to play.

And look how coincidence reveals itself once again: I recently watched the movie México '86.

Directed by Gabriel Ripstein, while not a film with lofty artistic pretensions, I do believe it is worth watching for those who love sports and their curiosities.

Here, we will examine the unique process that led to Mexico hosting the 1986 World Cup—becoming the first country to host the tournament a second time—an achievement realized thanks to Martín de Las Torre, who, upon taking charge of the Mexican Football Federation, was able to demonstrate his full creativity in pursuit of this goal.

I mentioned the connection because, for one thing, that was the very first World Cup I was able to watch in my early childhood—on black-and-white televisions.

That was when I became captivated (and a lifelong Argentina fan) by Argentina’s performance and the great Diego Armando Maradona, the architect of something magical: the greatest goal in history, scored precisely against the English (against whom he also netted that legendary, cheeky goal known as "The Hand of God").
