The Authority
He lived in the compound like everyone else, but the landlord had placed him in charge as the caretaker. That authority changed how people related with him, even though he remained the same man. His duty was to ensure peace, cleanliness, and respect for the rules agreed upon by all tenants.
When one tenant repeatedly caused trouble and ignored warnings, the caretaker tried to settle the matter calmly. However, after several failed attempts, he had to act. Using the authority given to him by the landlord, he served the tenant a quit notice, making it clear that he was acting on the landlord’s behalf, not personal interest.
