A Fear of Buttons
My cousin surprised me the weekend she came. I never knew she was someone suffering from a fear of buttons. Her younger sister had mentioned it before, but I didn’t believe her. I thought it was just a child’s joke, something she made up to tease her sister. I honestly never knew such a fear existed.
Everything became real when I made my cousin a dress, a shirt gown that had buttons from top to bottom. I presented it to her as a birthday gift, smiling proudly. But the moment she saw the buttons, her face changed. She stepped back immediately, shaking her head, her hands trembling slightly. She couldn’t even touch the dress. I stood there shocked, watching fear wash over her like a cold wave.
That was when I truly understood that her fear wasn’t a joke. It was real, and stronger than I ever imagined.
