Beyond Freedom: The Responsibility of Choice

As I'm a family man, I always think twice before making choices, I also think about how much freedom I really have. Usually, we get the chance to make the decisions of our life as we want. We are able to choose what to eat, what to wear, where to go, how to spend our time and how to treat other people. So we are making these choices by our own and no one forces us. Because of this, I believe that free will exists to some degree.

If I have a look at the society, I can see the limits we have on our freedom. Because we live in a world filled with rules and expectations. Some of these rules are necessary to maintain peace in the society, it's for people's safety. But if there are no rules then the society won't be able to function properly. So if we have laws that would help the society to control chaos. But these laws are not the only limits. The thing I don't like about the society is that they interfere in others personal matter, they would judge others clothes, appearance, behaviour, who they hang out with, who they talk with. For them if someone acts too differently they don't belong to the society, they would be judged, or thrown out of the circle. As a result, our choices are often influenced by pressure from society.

I also feel the pressure, but I don't think of it in a wrong way. I think it is necessary because I want to be a good role model for my daughters. So, I try to take my actions wisely because I don't want anything to leave an affect on my family. Most of the time, I choose not to do something because it would have consequences not because I can not. So, it does mean that freedom is not unlimited. In my opinion, there is a free will for everyone. The people in our surroundings and the experience we gain in life it shapes us forever and influence the way we think. Even though we have limitations, we still have the ability to make choices. We may not be free to do everything but we are free to choose what we want in life. So, I believe we do have a free will, but within limited boundaries.

There is also another way to look at the restrictions of free will. Free wills does not mean that we should break the rules or reject the society. It means we should be wise enough to decide what's right and wrong. We should choose our values and staying true to them. I have seen people who would only follow the crowd because it is easy to do, while others think for themselves even when it is difficult. The real freedom is when we own the courage to make thoughtful decisions and accept the results of those decisions. As I grow older, I have acknowledged the truth about free will, it does not have to be with endless options and it's more about taking responsibility for the choices we make each day.
