A Loop Around La Copita. Our city, Cumana, the “Firstborn of the Continent” has countless plazas and roundabouts; the latter serve as the convergence point for many streets and avenues. Moreover, one of the things I like most about these places is that they feature abundant vegetation, especially large trees that protect us from the sun and, of course, help provide the oxygen we need.

On this occasion, we took a tour of one of the city’s most iconic roundabouts: La Copita. There’s a very peculiar situation here: this roundabout is called the “Student Roundabout,” while the Benigno Rodríguez Bruzual Roundabout is usually referred to as “La Copita”—both out of tradition and because it’s close to the La Copita Business Center. But anyway, the fact is that both roundabouts are very close to each other, and today we’re here to shed light on the real La Copita Roundabout.

At one end of Gran Mariscal Avenue—specifically to the east—is the José Martí Roundabout, which we’ve discussed in previous posts. Now, coming from that direction toward the west, we reach the other end of the avenue and arrive at the La Copita Roundabout. Very close by is the popular Delfín Marval baseball stadium, where we’ve met up on several occasions to enjoy the games between Caracas Lions and the Magallanes Sailors—a total war, hehehehe.

We continued on our way and quickly began our tour; we observed the very colorful dome, which was filled with lush vegetation; as I mentioned earlier, it has large trees. The structure is built on a concrete foundation; it’s slightly elevated, and you’ll see why shortly. On the outside, it features circular sidewalks and curbs, also made of concrete and in various colors. The roundabout has a wide blue border, and in certain places, there are openings where the respective walkways begin. These walkways are also made of concrete, separated into sections by bricks.

As mentioned at the beginning, several of the city’s streets and avenues converge at this roundabout. We can come and go via any of them to travel to other parts of Cumana. For example, to the north, we have Fernandez de Zerpa Avenue in both directions, and the Benigno Rodríguez Bruzual Roundabout is located precisely in that direction; we’ll discuss that roundabout another time. To the east is Gran Mariscal Avenue. To the west is Sucre Street, and very close by is the Republica Argentina Educational Complex, an iconic and historic institution in the city.

Now, inside the enclosure which also easily serves as a plaza—we find concrete benches all around the interior of the structure; and as mentioned earlier, there is a lot of color, since the benches—in addition to being made of concrete—come in a variety of eye-catching colors. The same is true of the large rocks located near them.

The vegetation is varied, featuring large and medium-sized trees, as well as flower beds with well-maintained, eye-catching plantings; tall palm trees adorn the area, and the bright sunshine illuminates us all. It’s worth noting that this vegetation is located near the outer edge of the roundabout; it’s truly a very pleasant place for people of all ages.

The dome’s structure is fabulous; almost at its center is a cup-shaped fountain with lower sections that function as channels through which water flows when the fountain is in operation. The edges of these channels are straight, while others have pointed ends, as if they were stars. The walkways are connected by a sort of green concrete bridge, allowing visitors to cross from one side to the other while the fountain is in operation.

A well-maintained space that also features LED lighting installed on strategically placed poles. As I mentioned earlier, the site is very close to the stadium, where people can park their cars and enjoy a pleasant time at Redoma La Copita. Una vuelta Por La Copita. Nuestra ciudad Cumaná Primogénita del Continente, cuenta con inmunerables plazas y redomas; estas últimas, son el lugar de convergencia de muchas calles y avenidas. Por otra parte, una de las cosas que me encanta de estos sitios, es que poseen muy buena vegetación, en especial cuentan con árboles de gran tamaño que nos protegen del sol y lógicamente ayudan en la proporción del oxígeno necesario para nosotros.

En esta oportunidad; hicimos un recorrido por una de las redomas emblemáticas de la ciudad, como lo es la Redoma La Copita. Existe una situación muy peculiar y es que, a esta redoma la llaman redoma del Estudiante; y a la Redoma Benigno Rodríguez Bruzual, normalmente le dicen La Copita, eso por tradición y por estar cerca del Centro Empresarial La Copita. Pero Bueno; los cierto es que ambas redomas están muy cerca y hoy nos dedicamos a dar a conocer la verdadera Redoma la Copita.

Hacia un extremo de la Avenida Gran Mariscal; específicamente hacia el este, se ubica la Redoma José Martí, de la cual hablamos en experiencias anteriores. Ahora; al venir desde esa dirección hacia el oeste, llegamos al otro extremo de la Avenida para llegar a la Redoma la Copita. Muy cerca encontramos el popular estadio de béisbol Delfín Marval; donde en varias ocasiones nos hemos dado cita para disfrutar de los encuentros entre Leones del Caracas y Navegantes del Magallanes; una guerra total, jejejeje.

Seguimos de largo y rápidamente iniciamos nuestro recorrido; observamos la redoma muy colorida y llena de abundante vegetación; como dije antes, tiene árboles de gran tamaño. La estructura está construida sobre una base de concreto; está un poco elevada y luego verán por qué. En su exterior cuenta con aceras y brocales de forma circular, también en concreto y de colores variados. La redoma tiene un borde ancho de color azul y en determinados espacios, tiene aberturas donde inician las respectivas caminerías. Caminerías igualmente de concreto, separadas en tramos por ladrillos.

Como se hizo mención al inicio; en esta redoma convergen algunas calles y avenidas de la ciudad. Podemos ir y venir desde alguna de ellas, para trasladarnos hacia otros sectores de Cumaná. Por ejemplo; hacia el norte, tenemos en ida y vuelta la Avenida Fernández de Zerpa y precisamente en esa dirección está la Redoma Benigno Rodríguez Bruzual; de ella hablaremos en otra oportunidad. En dirección al este, se encuentra la Avenida Gran Mariscal. En el caso del oeste; se localiza la calle Sucre y muy cerca se encuentra la Unidad Educativa República Argentina, institución emblemática e histórica de la ciudad.

Ahora; ya dentro de la redoma, que fácilmente también cumple función de plaza. Encontramos bancos de concreto por todos los alrededores internos de la estructura; y como se dijo antes, existe mucho color, ya que los mismos; además de estar fabricados en concreto, cuentan con múltiples y llamativos colores. Lo mismo sucede con las grandes rocas que se encuentran cerca de ellos.

La vegetación es variada; grandes y medianos árboles, además de jardineras con plantaciones bien corservadas y con formas llamativas; grandes palmeras que adornan el lugar y con un sol radiante que nos ilumina a todos. Es de hacer notar, que esta vegetación está ubicada cerca del borde exterior de la redoma; de verdad un sitio muy agradable para todo público.

La estructura de la redoma es fabulosa; casi en su zona central, está justamente una fuente en forma de copa con espacios inferiores que funcionan como canales, por donde pasa el agua cuando el sitio está lleno. Los bordes de estos canales son rectos y otros con puntas como si fueran estrellas. Las caminerías se conectan con una especie de puente de concreto en color verde, con el fin de que el público pase de un lado a otro cuando la fuente está en funcionamiento.

Un espacio que está conservado y también cuenta con iluminación led, colocada en postes ubicados de forma estratégica. Como dije antes; el lugar está muy cerca del estadio, donde la gente puede estacionar sus carros y pasar un momento agradable en la Redoma La Copita; si estás en Cumaná, puedes visitar este sitio y verás que la pasarás bien alejado del estrés; saludos y nos vemos pronto con más de la emoción que se siente, el recorrer los sotios de nuestra ciudad Cumaná.
