Surrender - What Insomnia Feels Like To Me
Surrender
Lying here wide awake
Thoughts encompassing my conscious wake
No sign of sleep
My mind does wander
Deep into the bleak abyss
Times gone wrong
What else could I have missed?
Failed life choices
Haunt my mind
Laughing
Taunting me
They're deep entwined
Feelings not evading me
Like a cold emotionless hug they surround me
Dark as night he appears
A projection of all my conscious fears
Rising like the mist of a cool spring dawn
The feelings he brings are not so calm
His only goal; to keep me up
Exhaustion overflowing my shallow cup
Sitting in wait
My thoughts a blur
The only escape is sleep
He makes it impossible so I must stay awake
His cold dark grasp
Growing stronger as dawn grows close
A monster in black
Disguised as an ever present conscious mind
What do we call this black cloaked figure?
Insomnia
Insomnia
To him I must surrender
