Will I Get a Job After College?

The question of employability is currently on the mind of most GenZ high schoolers. Nearly half of American workers are living on less than $18,000 per year, and rising student debt has made Gen Z wary of higher education’s investment. As a result, the generation is re-setting the tone for how students approach college.

Today, Gen Z doesn’t bother with summer gigs and fewer teens are looking for work than ever before. Instead, prospective college students are busy volunteering and doing homework to earn scholarships to afford their massive future expenses. For example, the average Gen Z student spends 2.66 hours per work volunteering and 6.48 hours on homework. Even further, most GenZ teens are spending their summers taking additional classes to gain college credits to lessen the expense during their pursuit of a bachelor’s degree.

For Gen Z, it’s all about employment. They’re on course to become the most educated and entrepreneurial generation, yet nearly all consider employability before selecting a major. How else is Gen Z reshaping college?
